WHEREAS, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has had the longest run in the world at Berkeley's UC Theatre, starting its weekly run in September, 1976. Over the past twenty-two years and four months, the UC Theatre hosted live performance casts, named Double Feature, in the late 70's; Indecent Exposure from 1980 to 1995, and most recently Barely Legal since October 31, 1995; and
WHEREAS, all the while Rocky Horror was featured at the UC Theatre, the live casts contributed to many charitable organizations and causes throughout the many years of performances; and
WHEREAS, Berkeley is held in high regard among the Rocky Horror "community" around the world, being considered a tourist attraction and one of the best Rocky Horror performances on the globe; and
WHEREAS, the performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a cultural icon of Berkeley, and is regarded with pride as a piece of Berkeley's history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Shirley Dean, Mayor of the City of Berkeley, do hereby express the appreciation of the people of the City of Berkeley to the cast of Barely Legal and all those who have been members of Barely Legal, Indecent Exposure, and Double Feature for their contribution to Berkeley's history and culture.
